The factory recommended procedure is to pressurize the oil system with an external tank, IE bearing leak down tester. This fills all the oil passages and guarantees no dry bearings when it spins the first time. As Bill W has stated you can not prime it by pulling the distributor as the oil pump gear is engaged on the cam drive gear.
