I believe that in most rigging applications a safety margin of 3 is desired, and 5 is used for overhead lifting. The cable ratings being discussed are breaking strength, so we don't have much margin in these applications. Remember also that winch cables get kinked and crushed, so they are weakend more. Obviously, if you're going to the limit of your shear pin, bigger would be better! Be safe! Rob
