Excelent point. I wondered about how much leeway a guy should have as a safty margin. I've never heard what that margin should be. This particular cable then would have a safty margin of around 5000#. It seems like I sure can crush a cable in pretty quick order. I can sure stress a cable when the log weighs close to a ton and its plowing a furrow as your winchin'it uphill. It seems like the cable is always crossing itself as its feeding onto the drum crushing or kinking the cable. The same cable in 7/16" would have a breaking strength of around 10 tons. Looks like a safer bet.
