First off you cant lift a Cummins cylinder head off with 2 people. We used the engine hoist. Looks like #5 cylinder got hot. Piston started to melt. Cylinder wall has piston splatter/ melt stuck to it close to the top. My guess is that the injector stop spraying fuel? SO what do we do next? 1 new piston, clean the cylinder up, drop the pan and install or pull the motor and rebuild it?? What do you guys think? We had the injectors check all 5 are good. Have to get a new tip for the broken one before it can be tested. DO any other guys here run performance injectors in there trucks?? The cylinder head looks good but there is allot of splatter on the head/valve area for that cylinder. After that my son and I spent the next 5 hours working on the bed on the W100. Almost done got all the hard stuff done. My son says we have to get it done so HE Can use it while his truck is down. Right thats why he helped me. I told him OK but you have to finish it on his own. The first thing my wife said how much is this gonna cost. Also this would never happen on a flat head or slant 6 no fuel and she will keep going till you turn the ignition off. NO Damage. SO more work ahead and money. Lets here some ideas, thanks Bill The unhappy Dodge Boys. PS the last 4 push rods rear of head are to long to clear to get out, BUT Dodge has holes in the over head cowl area for the rods to go up threw the hole to get the out.
