Bill I have an 01 Cummins that lost a piston in #4 cylinder. I took it to my former Dodge dealer where they pulled the piston. There was a good inch of the top edge of the ring groove missing along with a chunk of the top ring. The some of pieces left through the exhaust not hurting the turbo but hammered dents in the head somewhat. Also lost all 4 valves but the cylinder wall was fine. They honed the cylinder, replaced the valves and dropped in a new piston and replaced all injectors for $2800. We recently went to Montana where I pulled two trucks back grossing 26,000 without a hitch. A lesser engine would have been destroyed. I don't know if honing will remove the spatter but I'd say the block can be saved. I run an Edge programmer and 4" exhaust but have stock injectors. Rarely do I go over the 3rd setting on the chip usually run the 1st setting. How about a picture of that bed when it's done?
