napa pivot was too loose and when it advanced they floated and rubbed on the distributor cam shaft.
Cure, replaced them with a vintage set of Blue Streak points with the little felt wick for lub, remember them? No troubles.

Thanks for all of your input, one of those things that shouldn't have to be fixed but this is the world we live in.
