Geothermal units are more expensive to install but the heating costs are much lower.
Split minis are heat pumps. Compressor etc is outside, heating/cooling unit inside. Mine have SEER ratings of 25, very efficient. They are quiet and provide heat or AC. They come in a variety of capacities, fairly easy to install (by professionals) compared to geothermal.
