... at a yard sale for $20. It was full of esquire magazines from 1944 and 1945 and newspapers. If you look through it, everything was about building toward a better future and contributing to the growth of our country. Getting home from the war and getting back to work.
It was amazing to read about guys who had to go on the dole for 3 or 4 months after getting home and then after getting jobs, and getting their feet under them, they went down to the social welfare office and PAID THE MONEY BACK! Unheard of in this day and age.
I must admit here, that I have never had to be on food stamps or welfare. But right now I have my regular job, a side job as a ranch hand, and we own a small brick and mortar business in town. It pisses me off when people say there is no work, here because I know damn well there is. You may be swinging a hammer or pushing a lawnmower, but if you hustle, there is work to be had. There is no shame in taking a entry level job for entry level pay and working your way up.
I've had construction guys who are "out of work" tell me that they "wont get out of bed for less than $20 per hour." And they don't have to because they can happily stay on unemployment for 2.5 years. And don't even get me started on the BS disability claims. I have a friend of who is a private eve, and makes a nice living taking pictures of people on SSD water-skiing and stuff.
