I switched from a square-top carb with vacuum advance accelerator pump that was missing its governor and surging out of control, to a NOS round-top E7T2 carb with mechanical advance accelerator pump and no governor. Problem is: throttle rod, dog, and lever are different. They also exit the throttle body on the engine side of the carb rather than the fender side. The trottle rod on the new carb is shorter than the old one. It's too short to mount the throttle lever, even if I could reverse the position to line up with the accelerator linkage.
Is there a way to use the new carb with my old hardware? What have others done when switching to mechanical advance carbs? Can I swap in a longer throttle rod? What am I missing here? Thanks in advance for your help!
