M880 driveshaft question

the(rear) driveshaft when i bought it had a big dent in it. at 50mph the vibe is very bad. all u joints are good for now.my rear drive shaft measures 57.5" yoke to yoke. i looked at a shaft from a similar year and was
60+ inches. will i always get different measurements within a few inched from different pws? does the slip joint + - inches? also this is full time 4x4 if i slip into nuetral does the drive shaft stop spinning?
