As far as I know, the 1/2 tonners never had a combat rim. That came into service with the 3/4 tonners.
The 1/2 ton rim was designed for 7.50x16 tires. Some folks say you cannot safely put a 9.00x16 tire on these rims, others have done it and say it works. With 7.50x16 tires you can run dualies in the rear, and a few could even run dualies up front with the extended wheel studs. Seems this quickly went by the wayside.
Most folks usually put the 3/4 ton combat rims on them if they want 9.00x16 tires. Myself I'd opt for the M37/PW Budd style, because it looks closer to the original rims, though you cannot dualie it. I've always thought the 1/2 tonner just begs for larger tires.
I have a chassis complete with dualies in the rear, and while they look cool, the tire diameter is just too small. Wish someone made a 16" 7.50 width tire that was 9.00 tall. That would allow a larger tire AND dualies.
