I cut up a big Douglas Fir a couple of years ago. The tree was 30" at the base and so full of limbs that it was next to impossible to split. I use a fire axe to split most wood, but when it gets tough, the maul comes out. This one needed wedges and sledge hammer. A friend of mine was moving and I bought his 14 ton hydraulic splitter mainly to split up that gnarly old fir. It made easy work out of it.
