Cummings diesel exhaust system.

We have a '98 Dodge 3500 dual wheel pick up with a Cummings diesel. Being the truck was ultra loud we looked at the exhaust system and it appears that the prior owner has altered it, as there is a catalytic converter installed. What components should be in this exhaust system? Is there a component that aids in the braking? [vmted@earthlink.net]
