...I used a different foundry when I did the brackets with Steve & they were around $35ea for the bronze. The only reason I liked the idea of the ductile iron is that it's WAY more flexible than bronze. It's actually as flexible as mild steel. It was invented in the mid 40's & it's a variation of conventional cast iron & really nice to work with, comparatively.
Why you ask? Well....hmmm...the only real reason is that I've never seen one made in bronze...only ever cast iron :)
The foundry that casts with the ductile is incredible. There's absolutely no grinding or filing when they're done...just one small spot where they grind off from the pour. It's a family run foundry that specializes in one-off's for the auto crowd & the guy is really fussy. When I had the bronze ones done....not so good! :) They still needed about an hours filing & grinding on each arm to make them usable.
I'm going to see if I can get him down in price. If anyone wants a pair & is willing to pay for them up front...let me know & we'll see how many pair we can come up with.
I don't need any...I don't even have a FFPW anymore...too slow :) :)
