3/4 ton WC front axle shafts in 1/2 ton axle housing

Hello all,
Stupid question but, can you install 3/4 ton WC front axle shafts into the 1/2 ton front axle housing. I'm asking this because I am installing a 4 pinion 8&3/4' third member in my 1/2 ton WC front and back. The spline count is different between the 2 and 4 pinion carriers. If I can't I will have to disassemble the 2 pinion carrier and install the side gears into the 4 pinion carrier so I can use my 1/2 ton front axle shafts. Would save me time and $. Thanks for any advice.
