I just screwed the zerk into a new U-joint, didn't feel like I tightened it too tight, and it broke off. It wasn't very tight so I figured an easy-out would remove it. Hammered the easy-out in, twisted it a little, and it slipped right out, with its sharp edges rounded off. Wasn't a cheap easy-out either. Next I ruined two left-handed drill bits, one Chinese and one American. Then figured I'd drill it out and re-tap it 1/4-28. That wrecked a #3 bit. I can't figure why a zerk would be hardened, but that one sure was. I guess all that's left is to take the U-joint back out, toss it, and get another. Should have done that first before I wrecked an easy-out and 3 drill bits.
