I thought about just greasing it up good and plugging the hole. The trouble is I'm replacing one that failed specifically because it didn't have a zerk on it. The grease was long gone and it the cups were dry and rusty inside. I don't want that to happen again, although I probably shouldn't care since the original lasted 40 years and 40 years from now I'll probably be dead. I'm a little leary of putting heat to it for fear I'll ruin the temper in the spider.
