I recently obtained a freshly rebuilt 230 M37 engine. Fresh in that it hasnt been run, but rebuilt about 20 years ago. The thing I noticed was that there are flat washers under all of the head bolts. Never seen that before on a 230. I pulled one out to see if it was just a bolt, and it it a correct head bolt, with the shoulder. My inclination is to pull the head and peek into the cylinders, and ditch the flat washers. Question is, is the head gasket re-usable if it was just torqued down and never run? Or is it toast once its torqued?
Thanks,
Tim
