My personal choice for a serious home fab shop would be a Miller Econotig(150Amp). We have one on a roll around cart at work, it probably gets used an average of 2 hrs daily over the last 7 years. Strangely about 1 ½ ago when an engineer I know went to a local welding shop to price one they wouldn’t recommend it. They claimed the Econotig has a circuit board that burns out often & is very expensive to replace. I searched a couple of welding forums & didn’t find any evidence of any complaints. I think the store was just trying to up sell him on a full size Syncrowave that they had in stock. I have used this unit to do tons of stainless exhaust work, Cast iron manifolds, aluminum oil pan modifications, heavy steel motor mounts & simple sheet metal work. I have always been happy with it’s arc starting and stability.
Hopefully someone will have some feed back on the Diversion 165 that looks like a very simple user friendly machine.
