I'd like to be able to replicate/restore the old greenish WWII-era Parkerized finish, but can't find any good explanation of how it was done. It's sort of like bluing, but provides a dull greenish tint that is tough and rust-resistant. I don't know if it's done electrically or not, but I tend to doubt it. It's probably similar to phosphatizing. I'm thinking the green color comes from a chromate component in the solution, since the color is similar to chrome oxide and it would be rust-resistant. I know chrome salts are unpopular to work with these days, but I'd at least like to know how to do it before I decide whether or not to try. Anybody have any experience with actually doing it?
