I cant imagine that dodge would build a offset rear axle just so a POT shaft could run down the middle off the truck > theres enough length to in the truck to run a pto with a couple of u joints to center it at the rear > plus the pto would only be occasionally used as opposed to the constant need to drive wheels all the time > i may be a green horn around power wagons but not drive l ines > i am leaning more to do with function of the transfer case < since the front drive has to be offset the t case and all shafts run straight and true from the case > as for stronger shafts short verses long i can see no difference in strength > now when it comes to pulling any great loads be it a tractor, truck or a bulldozer due to the rotation of the engine more ground force is applied to the passenger side(right) of the unit ( just watch a heavy truck pull away from a stop) the truck actually twists to the right and the nose drops that way > when doing front end and spring work thers was always compensated a amount that we calculated in for the torquring and ground force reaction applied to the passenger side under heavy loads > just my thoughts and opinions open to discussion and just a little critizim ~ Copy
