Ok, this didn't make since to me, but in the M's Differential assembly instructions is says (Page 135, paragraph 7):
Turn differential bearing adjusting nut in, a notch at a time, until the backlash between the drive gear and driven pinion is a minimum of 0.004 inch. Tighten 5/8 nuts on differential bearing cap upper stud to 100 to 200 foot-pounds torque, which usually increases the backlash to 0.001 to 0.002 inch.
OK, how can going from 0.004 to 0.001 or 0.002 be in increase in backlash?
0.001 to 0.002 is referred to in the preceding paragraph as well, is that a typo, and should be 0.01 to 0.02?
