all the above advive is exellent theres is on crucial step which i see over looked in the picture here > as i see it every body complains about drive line noise howling whine 'ing' and over all plain poor differential performance > ok we understand the importantance of backlash "is a good thing " what i feel is the single most important is the PATTERN wear the gears mesh > if you paint the gears dry with 'red lead; theres a specific point that the manufacture sets for ideal CONTACT > plenty of pictures are available to see what this should look like > if the gears are deep and drive on bottom or top of ring gear same for heel and toe (inner and outter) face of the ring gear > just a thought but its something to consider ~ Copey
