bed question, concerning the hat channels

I have set up everything in preparation to lifting the assembled bed up on the frame and bed supports of my '52 B-3 (2nd series).
Everthing seems to line up and fit well with the bed strips and side strips, except for a curious thing with the hat channels.
At the ends of each if the two hat channels are two drilled holes on each "leg". These do not line up or correlate with the square holes in the angle strips that are welded to the bed sides.
What is the purpose of these holes at the ends of the hat channels?
I can post a picture if need be, I just thought the bed experts would know ;)
