Or use stainless. 18-8 stainless nuts bolts and screws are pretty cheap these days, and you can get them in fine thread too. I buy 'em from fastenal.com. Any screw that was hard to get apart due to rust gets replaced with stainless if possible, unless it's in a serious high-stress spot. Even just a stainless nut on a plain steel stud will come apart a lot easier in the future than a regular steel nut will.
