High pitch is a fact of life with straight cut gears. Blue tinge means previous low oil, and metal filings are normal for a crash box.
The only 5 speed with granny & overdrive is the NV. Rebuilt and a core charge, probably about $2,000. Then, it's too long, so you'll need to move the transfer case back, and make three new drive shafts. and new linkages, and shifter mount. Maybe a new cross member.
Or pour $10 worth of 90 wt into the old crash box.
