All my trucks have stock shock brackets. I would not open those holes up. Those U Bolts want to be Tight and real snug, no play. Even when using the stock mounts and U Bolts bent to exactly the right size, they fit very snug that they sometimes need a little tap to get them on.

I just like things tight with no margin for play/movement, especially on axles.
