I installed a hydronic heating system in my 20'x50' shop and wouldn't live without it. Heat from the floor is the most stable and natural; no more cold feet or roids from sitting on the floor!
Best is to install the tubing before you pour the slab but you can always do an "over-pour" by laying 3-4" of concrete over your existing slab.
Cost wise, if you do the job yourself, it is very reasonable; I came out at 1600$CAN for the whole heating system, about the cost of a forced air system without the fire hazard! My design uses a simple oil-fired water heater.
As a suplementary heat source I have a 30A electric heater suspended close to the overhead door to bring temperature quickly back up when I open it in the winter. I also have a woodstove but that is more to be romantic than anything else!
