I heat a 2 story 1680 sq ft home on 3-4 cords of wood a year & use wood for the only source of heat. I have a super insulated house with R-42 in the ceiling, R-19 with Ty-Wrap on the outside walls and R-30 in the floors. Winter last a easy 5-6 months of heating and it does get cold here in Eastern Washington at the 2,800 ft level. I have neibors who use 10-12 cords of wood for the same size house. Good insulation sure saves in the long run. Mark H.
