The 390 was one of the real power houses mid 60's and up. If the engine is in good shape, it'll tow alright.

I guess I'm the oldest one responding to your post since none of the young whippersnappers mentioned BRAKES.

You might want to go to a F*** site and see what brake upgrades are being done to trucks like the one you are considering.
