Hooked up backwards makes them hot

- on coil goes to - of battery, + goes to + of battery. i.e., if negative ground truck, + from ignition switch goes to + of coil, - of coil to distributor. Or maybe defective coil? All coils are 6 volt, use a resistor on 12 volt systems. 8 volt systems probably have shorter points life, but I've never heard of an 8volt coil.
