6 Volt Heater Motor Conversion?

I converted my C3PW to 12 volt, everything except the heater motor.
I tried putting a resistor inline, but it get's too hot. I'm wondering if
replacing the 6v motor is an option, or maybe I should toss out
the Mopar heator box/core and put something else in. Winter's coming
and I'd appreciate any feedback on this problem,
