Here is the scenario. I am converting the PW to power steering. My thoughtwas to use my fisher plow pump to power both the plow and the power steering. I checked around both here on the forum and at a local hydraulics shop. The concensus was that it should work. I got it all hooked up this afternoon and poured in the fluid. Turning the wheel back and forth, stop to stop to work the air out of the system. The pitman arm was not connected so all I was moving was the steering box. The resevoir was kept full during this process. The steering wheel did not feel relly smooth, there were spots in the travel with less resistance. I thought maybe if the engine was turning a bit faster than an idle it would work better. I gave it some throttle and then the wheel started to have alot of resistance. It almost felt like I was turning the wheels with the old non power steering box. I lifted the plow control handle thinking that the pliow valve might need to circulate out its air. Instantly, the return line blew off at the filter. I shut it right down, mopped up some of the fluid and called it a day. So, I guess it is time for plan B. The problem is that I have no idea what plan B is.
Thanks, Tim
