What do you all think about this...
PWGNDUDE lists a set of front fenders on ebay, starting bid is $100. The fenders are in Mint NOS condition with headlights and everything, so we all know they are worth say $800 including PWGNDUDE.
Nobody is bidding on them after day three. PWGNDUDE gets a offer from KOOKYSHOES to stop the auction and buy the fenders outright for $800 (even though there are 3 days left and someone could come in and snipe a high bid in at the end which is what usally happens) because he really needs a set of fenders for his klunker, and the body shop wants $1000 to straighten out his old ones.
PWGNDUDE is nervous that his fenders wont sell, and he needs the dough to buy a Belt pulley from HIGGIEBABY, so he agrees to sell the fenders. A deal is cut, along with a check on the 4th day of the auction, but it's going to take days for the check to get there via USPS.
Now comes the sticky part...
PWGNDUDE does not stop the auction because he wants to see what the fenders will go to, as he has already paid the listing fee, and really has nothing to lose.
KOOKYSHOES sees the auction is still going and in the last hour of the last day the bids start coming in hot and heavy. They slam right through the $800 mark and start heading up over $1000.
KOOKY shoes is getting nervous because he is thinking that PWGNDUDE is just going to sell to the highest bidder, although in good faith they have already made a deal, out side of the kingdom of Ebay (and he has nothing to loose as he already has a bonafide sale of $800).
KOOKYSHOES throws a outrageous bid of $2500 so that will in effect stop anyone in thier right mind from bidding (well almost anyone, HaHaHa!).
Auction ends with KOOKYSHOES as the high bidder.
Is it right for PWGNDUDE to demmand $2500 from KOOKYSHOES even though they had a deal at $800 three days earlier?
What would be the right thing to do here?
I've never been involved in any transaction like this, (I almost was on the Chicken AK Power Wagon!) but the comments between Matt and Kevin made me think about a couple of things.
