I have always used single wire delco alternators. Now I need to use a 3 wire delco alternator. From my notes taken from a tractor site the wireing states to run heavy cable from the alternator output to the Plus post on the battery. The Pig tail connector # 2 or F wire gets switched 12 volts from the run position on the key switch. The #1 or R wire is for the idiot light and need not be used. This is how I wired it up (idiot light not used) and there is no output. Verified by a digital voltmeter on the Bat + and - terminals. It just sits at 12.6 volts with engine running even at high RPM's.
I had taken the alternator to have it checked. The first guy said it had no output, but acted VERY unsure of what he was doing. I took it to a different place and they said it had 60 amps out put. So maybe its good or bad ???
Is my wireing correct as described above ?
Thanks, have a great and safe 4th.
Paul
