I just heard the news, our national grandfather has died, President Ronald Reagan died at age 93 today. I am not normally at a loss for words, but his passing leaves me empty.
For those of you too young to remember, when Ronald Reagan became President, interest rates were at 21%, unemployment was high, Iranian fanatics held Americans hostage in Iran, American planes were being hijacked on a regular basis, the Soviet Union was pointing unknown thousands of nuclear missiles at the US, Germany was divided and communism was spreading throughout the globe. But President Reagan was not deterred, he told us it was Morning in America, not our end and demise, he made it OK to believe in the USA and he made it OK to stand tall and not cower or second guess our national purpose. His two terms as President led to unprecedented economic growth, the fall of the Soviet Union, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the freeing of millions in Eastern Europe, and the return of American Pride and values. He rebuilt the American Military, the American Economy and our sense of purpose, he re-ignited our faith and belief in America. History will prove him to be one of the greatest Presidents of all time. Today is the eve of the 60th anniversary of D-Day, last week the dedication of the WWII Memorial and Memorial Day. A more fitting time for President Reagan to join his generations' place in history could not be found.
God Bless America
