Weight Rating of a 2 1/2 ton truck Military?

This may have been answerd befor here but what is the real GVWR of a 2 1/2 ton Military truck? My freind told me they are gross weight rated at 24,500 lbs. That seems strange when my single rear axle truck is rated at 30,200 and a truck with 2 rear axles on the rear can't gross total weight 25,000 lbs? What is the deal? I can't seem to find a page showing military trucks GVWRs. Mark H.
