Been there done that a couple months ago. It is a whole lot of work and they are heavy to try and assemble. I used POR-15 on mine and hope it will last(chassis coat), we shall see. I did not find anything between the spring except dirt and rust haha. I used an abrasive pad(not sand paper) on an air sander it did real good job getting to shiny steel underneath and didn't take long. I also purchased spring rebuild kits from VPW but had to cut down end of the bronze bushing so they fit in the spring eye ends. It wasn't much maybe 3/4 of an inch tops. The long middle bolts were just right as well since one of them broke in disassembly. I have about 3 sets of PW springs you can practice on Marty haha
