you will find the Adirondack Park which consists of 6 million acres of Public and private land. 100's of thousands of acres are decreed 'Wild Forever' by State Constitution. Only foot, horses and if you can ride a pedal bike are allowed. There are a lot of old Tote Roads from logging before the State Constitution placed it Wild Forever. I am a 4 season Backpacker, a Licensed New York State Guide, as is Tam, but we are not Tree Huggers as many describe them. We are also 4 wheelers. However, when I am in the backcountry, backpacking the LAST thing I want to hear or see is a piece of Motorized equipment of any kind. Even the Rangers Backpack in on patrols. When I am in a 4 wheel area, I like to see 4x4's and drive mine. The two DONT and NEVER will mix.
There are out of state'ers who come up here and try to sneak in and drive on these roads, they come here to try to force their desire to have these roads opened for their 4x4 and ATV's. The out of state'rs are the worst offenders. Encon Police, Rangers and finally the Courts, point out their error quickly.
We and most love it here because there is room and places for everyone to enjoy thier
recreation. This is a VAST area of Wilderness, that is and will always be remote. Much of the area will be 'Wild Forever'
