dodge diesel - noise level - off topic a little

I have seen (or heard) several dodge diesels. They all are about the same year -- 1997/8. None are the new style that are supposed to be quieter.

My question is: How 'come some of the diesels seem quieter than others at idle? Is it the difference between turbo charged and non turbo?

Just curious..
