SR-71 was well. If we still had those flying we could have gotten realtime intelligence instead of waiting for the satellites to come into range.
A lot of people don't realize that satellites are only capable of capturing 15 minutes of images every 90 minutes and that it takes days to reposition them. That and If I remember correctly we only have two of them currently orbiting and one definitely has to keep an eye on North Korea.
For the cost of one of the satellites the SR-71 could have been kept flying for another thirty years.
