Here is how it works although it defies all logic on first thought:

There must be a lot of trees available close to where you are stuck. Or, one must carry several deadman axle shafts or something else to bury in the ground and/or hammer in with a big sledge.

Run the front winch cable straight as possible ahead to a sturdy snatchblock strapped to a tree or chained to a deadman. From this first snatchblock, run the cable to a second snatchblock attached to another tree or deadman well off to either the left or right side of the truck. From that second snatchblock, run the cable on to a third snatchblock attached to a tree or deadman as straight as possible behind the truck. From this third snatchblock, run the cable to a fourth snatchblock attached to the rear of the truck. From the fourth snatchblock, run the cable back to the same point where the third snatchblock is attached (tree or whatever)behind the truck and secure it there.

Start reeling in the front winch cable and the truck will be pulled out backwards.

I was laughing hysterically the first time I tried it.
