Yes it was a lot of ingenuity involved, but I can not take credit for any of it. I saw that rigging diagram in either an old TM or a military publication. I couldn't get my mind wrapped around it until I tried a test with a block of wood, a long string, and chair legs acting as the "trees". It worked perfectly so I tried it next in my yard with my WDX and several trees.

Now I always carry plenty of snatchblocks where ever I go along with a supply of log chains and clevises. If in doubt, I throw in several old axle shafts onto which I have welded a large head and sharpened the other end to a point, as well as a large sledge hammer. Sometimes I will even load up another 75 feet of cable. ;^)

So four snatchblocks are a necessity along with a fifth for a spare.

Good use of a winch and the snow conditions to get yourself out of trouble Jerry! I have seen trucks with small fairleads at the ends of a very heavy front bumper. The idea was that the front winch cable could be routed to either the left or right front corner of the truck and then alongside of it to anchor to something to the rear of the truck. No danger in doing any body damage there...

I never felt the need to go to that extreme.
