It is an etching acid it I am correct.
Can you sandblast the parts? On my last project I took the frame and axles - big things to a commercial blaster. Bright them home and shot the, with epoxy primer and either urethane or hardened enamel.
The smaller parts zi blasted in my cabinet and handled the same.
If it was not convenient to paint right after blasting, I treated the metal with phosphoric acid (Ospho) to “hold” the parts - prevent rust - until convenient later. But you must store inside.
