Hi Jason,

You are smart to have a fear of doing this, but you can do it safely with some good common sense.

First, i suggest you carefully look at the wheel and lock ring for obvious corrosion, wear or damage due to the age of this stuff. Tapping the parts can’t really hurt, but its more important to make sure the wheel and lock rings are correct for each other, and in good shape.

I suggest the 6 foot clip on hose is too short. I dismounted 4 NDT tires on my PW and put some new ones on by myself at my home, but when it came to putting air in the tires, I made a 50 foot long hose, and went outside of my garage to air them up.

I bought a metal, rigid valve stem extender, and cut it in half. I then put each half on the end of a 50’ hose with hose clamps. The tire end screws on, not clips on, for extra safety.

I laid the tires split ring down on the floor, attached my 50’ hose to the valve stem and went outside of the garage with my compressor hose and pressure gauge.

Was it overkill? I don't think so, it cost me $10 and I’m still kicking.
