I am approaching this task with an interest in achieving success with out injury . I have two different styles of rim to dismount and mount tires on. One style is the 5 lug Power Wagon wheel, and the other is probably mid 70's 8 lug rim spaced for duals.

I have assembled a bead breaker, an air hose with a 6' reach and clip on chuck. 3 chains, Talcum powder. I have read somewhere that tapping the locking ring is part of getting it to seat.
Is that true, and is that recommended?
Any and all suggestions welcome.
