transmission uh oh

'57 w/NP420 transmission. Lately whenever the FFPW has been sitting for over a week or two, when I first put it in gear, it doesn't move for a second.. I can feel the the engine forcing the transmission...then it moves...It seems to be able to shift into gear easily, just doesn't move...I noticed that the PTO gaskets leaked a bit, and did I add oil, but it still does this...I am no mechanic...did I damage it? I don't want to do any more damage...guess I need to take take it back to the guy who rebuilt the transmission 10 years ago..
