My Parts manuals show that 1960 was the last year that power steering part numbers for ANY W300, W300M, or WM300, models were listed in the manuals. Indicating that, at least on paper, our old 1-ton Power-Wagons were available with power steering as an option only for the years of 1957 through 1960.

Shown here are photos of the first attempt that Dodge used to provide oil to the power steering gear. This pump was removed from the same FFPW as the steering gear shown in the posts above.

The parts lists started showing this pump available for the W300 model starting in 1957 and also available for the W300M in 1958 and 1959. It is not listed in the 1960 parts list for the FFPW of that year. This may indicate that for 1960 dodge switched over to the piggy backed pump on the rear of the generator. I will do more research.

This pump was not listed in 1957 as a new, never-before-listed, number. But, several of the external parts that mate it to the W300 and W300M engine are unique to those trucks and are indicated by being new never-before-listed numbers. They are not listed for any other Dodge trucks.

This pump mounted to the front right three head bolts close to the radiator - the same three head bolts that were used to mount a mechanical engine governor if the truck was so ordered. The governor employed a one-piece formed flat steel bracket to mount the governor to the engines head, whereas the power steering pump employed a two-piece cast bracket having the same foot print. The pump mounted pulley was unique to the W300 and W300M FFPW. The drive pulley was mounted on the engine sandwiched between the water pump pulley and the radiator fan. It was the same pulley that was used, and in the same location, as the pulley that was used to drive the mechanical engine governor, and it had the same part number.

Thus, a truck ordered with the mechanical engine governor could not be readily fitted with power steering and one with power steering definitely could not have a mechanical governor as well.

The parts list do not indicate a manufacturer, or a manufacture's model or part number, for the pump.
