On the subject of using old bearings verses finding new. Used bearings can become worn out of tolerance and it may not be apparent visually. The CMM that I program as Director of Quality Control in our inspection department accurately measures down to 4 microns. I can and do check the tapers on bearing races that we produce for customers, but since this double race is one of the most important on the truck, I would be more comfortable double checking used races with an optical comparator.

With that in mind, your idea of a spacer will certainly work assuming the over-the-counter single races are machined to very tight tolerances on their lengths and repeatability between races is held very tight. The spacer would most certainly need to be ground to size. Again, an optical comparator would be useful here to assure the new parts are held to tolerance and one would need a NOS double race to compare to along with the original dimensional specifications from the manufacturer out to at least 10ths (4 decimal places).

I may run this past the my boss who owns the company and see if he would be interested in producing spacers if we could source all of the supporting information needed. It would help keep a CNC running during slow times.
