Clint, I hope your boss will pick up the baton on this project. As you know the double race is the heart of the 9-5/8 third member. Without it the third member can't be rebuilt.
Given that there may be variations in the overall thickness of 2 single races, it might be necessary to machine the new spacer slightly under thickness and supply a shim pack for the installer to use. The M37 service manual has an excellent writeup on how to set the preload for the double race bearing. I used it when I did the third members on the 6x6. It's fairly easy to do, and very important.
